The Wisdom of Aunt Marion

I love spending time with Aunt Marion, and I think you will too! So, pull up a rocking chair and spend a few minutes with her. She’s the spirited, Scripture-loving heart of The Sandcastle Inn Mysteries, and in this post, she shares her down-to-earth wisdom. With her trademark humor and holy boldness, Aunt Marion reminds us where real joy comes from—and why she’s not trading in her pedal pushers for a choir robe anytime soon.

Aunt Marion Says...

I love them little fortune cookie sayin’s, but they don’t mean beans.
Give me a good Scripture I can sink my teeth into, and I’m a blessed girl.

This world’s full of odd ideas—people going a million different directions, all looking for happiness. Makes no sense to me. There might be some mention of happiness in the Bible, but I can’t think of a single Scripture that promises it. That ain't God's way.

What the Bible does promise, though, is joy. And that’s something altogether different.

Joy isn’t something that comes from the stuff we collect.
It can’t be found in a bank account or in a shiny new car. Nope.
Joy is that bubblin’ up, wash'n-over-your-heart Holy Spirit thing inside o’ me that no one can quite explain.

Sure, sometimes life throws me a curveball. But I just pull out my prayer glove and pitch it right back. Can’t say I don’t wobble now and then—but I don’t stay down.

They say it ain’t over till the fat lady sings.
Well, it ain’t over till my Jesus comes for me.
And I’ll be singin’ praises till He does.
(Probably after too, but I sure hope it won’t be in one of them sissy dresses.
I prefer my pedal pushers and a nice cotton t-shirt.)

So go ahead—sink your teeth into this scripture, and join me in praising our good, joy-giving God:
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him,
so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” -
Romans 15:13 (NIV)

P.S. “That ain’t my picture, but you get the message.”
